Managing your monthly television budget efficiently is a great way to save money, especially when you realize you are paying for channels that nobody in your household watches. If you want to drop a specific paid channel, broadcaster pack, or a la carte add-on from your Airtel Digital TV (DTH) connection, the process is straightforward.
Depending on whether you prefer using your smartphone, the television screen, or a quick text message, you can easily unsubscribe from Airtel channels using several methods.
Method 1: Using the Airtel Thanks App (Easiest & Fastest)
If you have a smartphone, managing your DTH plan through the official mobile app gives you a clear visual breakdown of your active packs and pricing.
- Open the Airtel Thanks app on your smartphone.
- Navigate to the DTH section on the home page (if your mobile number is linked to your DTH account, your connection will appear automatically).
- Tap on Manage or look for the Manage TV Channels option.
- Select Edit Current Plan to view everything currently active on your connection.
- Locate the specific channel or broadcaster pack you want to remove, and deselect it.
- Review your updated monthly summary and tap Confirm & Change to finalize.
Verification: Your monthly recharge amount should update instantly in the app, and the channel will typically deactivate within a few minutes.
Method 2: Unsubscribing via SMS
If you don’t have active internet data on your phone or prefer text messaging, you can drop a channel directly via SMS using your registered mobile number.
- Open your phone’s messaging app and create a new text.
- Type the message in the following format:
REM [Channel Number]
(For example, if the channel number you want to remove is 502, typeREM 502) - Send this text to 54325 from your registered mobile number.
- You will receive a confirmation message shortly detailing the removal of the channel.
Verification: Look out for an official confirmation SMS from Airtel stating that the channel has been successfully dropped from your account profile. Ensure your set-top box is powered on while sending the request.
Method 3: Using Your TV Screen (Channel 998)
You can also manage your subscription directly from your living room using your Airtel remote control.
- Switch on your TV and Airtel Set-Top Box.
- Tune into Channel No. 998. This is Airtel’s dedicated account management channel.
- Follow the interactive on-screen instructions using your remote’s directional and OK keys to navigate to your subscribed channels.
- Select the channel you wish to remove and confirm your choice.
Verification: The screen will display a confirmation or generate a success message/code confirming that the deactivation request has been registered.
Method 4: Via the Airtel Self-Care Web Portal
If you prefer handling things on a laptop or desktop browser, you can use the official web portal.
- Visit the official Airtel Self-Care portal online.
- Log in using your registered mobile number or your DTH Customer / Service ID. Enter the OTP received on your phone to proceed.
- Go to the Digital TV section and click on Manage TV Channels.
- Click on Edit Current Plan, uncheck the channels you want to drop, and click Confirm.
